The Workshop

Venue and Date

Beckmanns Hof (room: Shanghai) of the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany; October 24 & 25, 2017.

Purpose of the Workshop

The conceptual spaces framework has been established by Peter Gärdenfors (2000, 2014). It serves as a mediating approach between the symbolic and the sub-symbolic levels of representation in cognitive architectures. As such, the framework motivates interesting questions about the organization of mental representational structures and processes.

Recently, the conceptual spaces framework has been broadened towards theoretical and empirical work on the structure of sensory categories, linguistic communication, concept formation, and reasoning. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together philosophers and cognitive scientists to discuss the contemporary applications of conceptual spaces in these domains.
